Wood burning stoves are a great way for heating rooms, but new data suggests that they release harmful pollutants in the air. These tiny particulates - PM2.5 have been linked to lung and heart issues as well as dementia.

This Ecodesign stove, which is DEFRA-approved, is a sleek and contemporary 5kW unit that can heat rooms quickly with the least amount of lag. The large flame view and airwash system also help this stove look good in any setting.

It's got great visuals of fire thanks to its large porthole-like window that is maintained clean with an airwash system. This means that they're also carefully engineered to meet the 2022 emission requirements of Ecodesign, the UK-backed EU regulation designed to improve our air quality.

This is possible due to the pre-heated tertiary heat being drawn in from the bottom of the stove, and the burn rate controlled with an air control rotary that allows for extremely low emissions. Coupled with a DEFRA-approved and Smoke Control Area exempt firebox and the capability to burn wood with up to 20% moisture content, this is among the most powerful large stoves available on the market.

There are two variants of the Sheraton one being a log store version that is designed to be flush with the chambered chimney breast, and a standard leg model that is ideal to fit into an inglenook opening. Both models have a nominal power output of 5kW, and offer excellent fire viewing via the large glass panel. They're available in a range of finishes as well as the matt black shown in the picture. This is a significant advancement as older stoves can release up to 20g of CO2 per hour. This could be dangerous to your health and increase the risk of respiratory issues.

The Chilli Penguin Defrost

Like the name suggests the 4.7kW stove is designed to defrost the windows after a winter walk or to cook the family dinner. This Ecodesign and DEFRA exempt Stovax product uses a new clean burn system which has three different features to achieve its remarkable efficiency. A combination of secondary heat retaining glazing, combustion air jets and air flow diversion help to keep the internal temperatures elevated, resulting in a more complete combustion of the gases produced by the fuel. This results in lower harmful emissions and lowers the amount of particulates that are emitted into the air.

The result is an extremely efficient stove that also comes with a stunningly large glass window which allows you to see the fire in the room. You can choose from a variety of colors and a chrome pedestal that will match your interior. The top loading stove features a large flat surface to place kettles and pans on.

The Pengiun as with all Stovax stoves, has passed all necessary tests and inspections. It can only be used to burn wood and smokeless fuels that have been approved by DEFRA. If you burn unauthorised fuels you could be fined as much as PS1,000 per hour due to the amount of particles released into air.

outside wood burners Fireplaces & Stoves  is achieved with an innovative clean combustion system that has been improved to include a new pre-heated air feed which is introduced into the combustion chamber via jets and channels that are above the fire. The pre-heated air ignites volatile gases that are produced by the fuel which results in a better burn and less harmful emissions. It also introduces a cushion of air that is directed towards the glass, also known as an  air wash, to give you an unobstructed view of the flames.

The combination of these systems ensures that the new Penguin is in compliance with the most stringent emission limits and is classed as an  ecodesign stove. It emits less than 20 mg/m3 of carbon dioxide if you burn wood and 16 mg/m3 if you burn smokeless fuels.

The Go Eco
